Mag Specialties, based out of Denver Colorado, completed the commissioning of a new 3,200 ton extrusion press line in November 2019 at its Nuevo, Laredo, Mexico plant. The line is fully equipped with the latest computer aided extrusion technology and a state-of-the-art extrusion handling sys- tem. This includes billet furnace, intensive quenching, puller system and finishing saw.
This extrusion line will enable Mag Specialties to extrude up to 11” billets as well as produce plate as wide as 12.5”. The press will be able to handle larger billets that will deliver even longer extrusion runouts and improved yields.
The added flexibility to produce larger precision extrusions and greater tonnage of press will be criti- cal for the continued success of the company as it pivots even more to complex extrusions demand- ed by both the automotive and aerospace industry. Furthermore, the precise level of control offered by this press will assist the company to further optimize material properties demanded by our cus- tomers.
Mag Specialties has experience extruding 9000 shapes and 20 different alloys and this investment in tech-nology will assist us in extruding even newer shapes and alloys currently under development.
